Corpus Christi and traditional festivals bring excitement to BH Airport in June

June promises to be a busy month at BH Airport: more than 1 million people are expected to pass through the terminal. In total, there will be 9,306 landings and takeoffs, a 5% increase compared to the number of aircraft movements in 2024. The highlight is the Corpus Christi holiday, when passenger volume increases. Between June 18 and 23, almost 200 thousand passengers are expected to circulate through the airport, which represents a 5% increase compared to the same holiday last year.

To meet the demand for Corpus Christi, airlines are preparing 157 extra flights at BH Airport. As this is a cold season, the most popular beach destinations are mainly in the northeast: Porto Seguro, Maceió and Salvador. In addition, extra flights are planned for Manaus, due to the Paritins Folklore Festival, which takes place at the end of the month, and for Recife, which is very popular at this time of year due to the São João festivities.

The COO of BH Airport, Rodrigo Côrtes, emphasizes that the terminal is prepared for the growing volume of passengers. “In addition to the holiday, the month of June is usually busy due to the traditional São João festivities, including here in Minas Gerais, where we have many cities with an extensive schedule. At BH Airport, we have a dedicated team to ensure that the operation occurs efficiently and safely, in addition to a comfortable and agile experience for passengers,” he says.

With the expectation of increased movement, the COO also reinforces the importance of planning for travelers. The recommendation is that passengers arrive at the terminal in advance, use the airlines' digital channels to check in and pay attention to the guidelines regarding baggage and documentation. Seasonal routes in sight

With the arrival of winter in the southern hemisphere, BH Airport is preparing for new operations in the coming months. In June, Minas Gerais residents will once again be able to connect to Santiago, Chile, with the resumption of the route operated by Sky Airline – voted the best low-cost airline in South America. A new international destination will also be launched: Bariloche, in Argentina, with direct flights by Azul. In July, the same airline will resume direct flights between BH and Fort Lauderdale, in the United States.

BH Airport signs partnership with Confins City Hall and FdG to strengthen public education in the municipality

The start of the work to strengthen municipal education in Confins has been given: BH Airport, the city government and FdG – Fundação da Gide – signed, this Friday (6), a partnership agreement to support two elementary schools in Confins: Escola Municipal de Tavares and Escola Municipal Afonso José da Silva. Through the contribution and support of the Minas Gerais international terminal, the Integrated Education Management (Gide) methodology will be implemented in the units, which diagnoses the school and applies a development path together with managers to improve educational results. The project will initially last 12 months.

All the work begins with the identification of the causes of undesirable results in the teaching-learning process (measured by Ideb - Basic Education Development Index). From there, the design of a strategy to solve or block these causes and improve student performance begins. This is a simple, focused management path that is fully adapted to the school's language. Gide has already been applied in nine thousand schools in 12 states of the country, training one million educators and benefiting 10 million students.

BH Airport CEO Daniel Miranda celebrates the partnership. “When we learned about the methodology and realized how effective it was in other schools, raising the Ideb and transforming the lives of teachers and students, we understood that BH Airport could be part of this transformation, supporting schools that are so close to us. It is a joy to join the City of Confins in this project, which reinforces our purpose of shortening distances and connecting destinations. Strengthening public education in our region is a way of shortening the distance these students reach their dreams and life goals and connecting their destinations to new possibilities”, he says.

Confins Mayor Geraldo Gonçalves dos Santos (Pezão) talks about the importance of the initiative for the city. "The partnership represents an important step forward for public education in Confins. By joining forces between the government and the private sector, we are able to bring concrete management tools to our schools that will directly contribute to improving our students' learning. This partnership is a strategic step towards more efficient education with better results for our city," he says.

FdG CEO Rodrigo Godoy also highlights the integrated work between the government, private sector and third sector. "We believe that transforming public education requires the union of different forces, and this partnership with BH Airport and the City of Confins is a clear example of how the private sector and the government can work together towards a common goal: ensuring real opportunities for children and young people. Bringing the Gide methodology to these schools is taking a concrete step towards more efficient and fair education with results that impact lives," he says.

Environment Day: BH Airport advances in waste management and prevents 700 tons of garbage from being sent to landfill

BH Airport is making progress in environmental management and is celebrating Environment Day with results that reflect its commitment to the issue. Waste management is an example: in the first four months of 2025, 746 tons of waste were diverted from landfills through practices such as recycling, composting, incineration and co-processing. This number is 30% higher than the same period in 2024. Over 1,400 tons of waste were diverted last year. In addition to preventing environmental impacts such as soil and groundwater pollution and the emission of polluting gases, these practices also generate jobs and income, boosting the circular economy.

BH Airport's Engineering and Maintenance Manager, Emerson Chaves, explains that the terminal is seeking partnerships with different organizations to make waste management actions viable. One example is the work carried out since 2014 with the Lagoa Santa Association of Recyclable Material Collectors (Ascamare), which is responsible for sorting and disposing of recyclable waste generated at the airport. In 2024, the milestone was 3,750 tons of waste collected, an achievement that reinforces the airport's socio-environmental pillar and directly benefits the cooperative's 22 members. Another initiative is the recycling of irreversible tires, which are those that are no longer fit for use. They are sent to the Racri company in Betim (MG), where they are recycled and transformed into products such as granules, chips, wires and rubber powder, which is the raw material for floors, carpets and industrial coatings. In addition, BH Airport also has a partnership with the company Gram Terra Vegetal to give a new destination to unused wood, mainly pallets from cargo transportation operations. In 2024, 12.25 tons of wood were composted and transformed into high-quality organic fertilizer. This fertilizer is returned to the airport to be used in gardens and green areas. This practice closes the reuse cycle and is part of the circular economy logic.

“We are very proud of these actions that reinforce our commitment to the responsible disposal of waste, and which is aligned with a sustainability policy that has been consolidating year after year. We know that we still have a lot to do and we are dedicated to thinking of new strategies that make our operation increasingly greener”, says Emerson.

Other results

BH Airport also contributes to preserving the environment through other projects, such as the Gray Water Treatment Plant, which allows the collection and reuse of rainwater and water from the terminal's sinks and showers. Since the plant was installed, approximately 36 million liters of water have been reused, which represents 10% of consumption in the passenger terminals. The terminal is also paying close attention to its electricity consumption, which remains 100% clean and renewable: in the first four months of the year, more than 11,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) were consumed, with CEMIG-REC certification, including the energy supplied to our partners. In 2024, BH Airport also invested R$500,000 in four electric vehicles, which will replace traditional models powered by fossil fuels, contributing to a reduction of 30 tons of CO₂ per year in the atmosphere.

In addition to being recognized by Anac as the Most Sustainable Airport in Brazil, BH Airport has also received the title of Green Airport four times in a row from the Airports Council International (ACI).

Bastidores do BH Airport: visita guiada apresenta operação por dentro

Aviation enthusiasts, spotters (aircraft photographers) and Aeronautical Science students participated in a guided tour of BH Airport last Saturday (31/5). The event was held in partnership with influencer Rafael Castro, from the Instagram profile Papo de Aeroporto, which brings interesting facts and information about airports around the world. During the visit, participants got to know the behind-the-scenes and routine of the international terminal in Minas Gerais, starting with the Airport Operations Center, where airport and airline professionals work together to coordinate operations such as positioning and parking aircraft, boarding gates, baggage conveyor belts, updating flight information and aircraft movement. They also visited the Wildlife Management Center, where they met the falcons and the dog Martin, who help control wildlife at the airport site, dispersing birds and other animals that could pose a risk to operations. The group also visited the Fire Department, where they were able to experience a rescue simulation, visit an Embraer E195 aircraft parked in the apron and get a closer look at the boarding and disembarking areas.

The Operations, Safety and Passenger Experience Manager at BH Airport, Fabiano Reis, talks about the importance of opening the airport's doors to the community. "The goal of this action is to bring the airport closer to the population, especially aviation enthusiasts who often dream of seeing the inside of the operation. Actions like these also help to publicize the complexity and seriousness of the work we do here, which involves thousands of employees, procedures and standards to ensure the operation is safe and efficient. It is a joy to welcome visitors," he says.

Immediate Boarding

In addition to the tour in partnership with Papo de Aeroporto, BH Airport promotes several guided tours through the Immediate Boarding program. This initiative is part of the terminal's efforts to strengthen its relationship with the community, offering an immersive and educational experience that reveals the behind-the-scenes of commercial aviation. In 2024, 27 visits were made, with around 900 visitors, divided between public and private educational institutions, philanthropic institutions, associations, companies and the airport community.

Governance in focus: BH Airport is recognized as a national reference in Third Party Risk Management at GRT Experience 2025

For the second consecutive time, BH Airport received recognition as a national reference in Third-Party Risk Management at GRT Experience 2025, a national event that brings together professionals in the field and is held by Bernhoeft, a pioneer in the sector in Brazil. The international terminal in Minas Gerais achieved high adherence (98.5%) and compliance (94%) rates in the documentation required of its third parties, analyzed monthly by Bernhoeft.

Third-party management is linked to the airport's ESG actions, specifically to the governance area. This management involves everything from regulatory compliance of contracts with third parties to workplace safety, in addition to ensuring that suppliers and partner companies act in full synergy and alignment with BH Airport's best practices and values.

BH Airport's Administrative-Financial Manager, Dardânia Leite, highlights that the results of having third-party risk management are many, such as the mitigation of contractual risks and legal non-conformities; the alignment of culture between contracted companies and the airport; in addition to practical benefits for the operation, such as reduced operating costs, since hiring is done based on a strategic and targeted procedure.

“ESG actions are well-known in environmental and social activities, but not everyone is aware of the importance of the ‘G’ in the acronym, which stands for governance. It is the basis for the company’s responsible operation and, therefore, it is a source of pride to see that we have become a market reference in our Third Party Management process. This reinforces BH Airport’s commitment to humane and conscious management, in addition to excellence in risk management, which contributes to the safety of our operation,” he says.
